It’s the most beautiful Saturday afternoon and I’m sat on the balcony with a lemonade writing this blog post. I can literally already tell that summer is right around the corner and I love summer in Switzerland! As the days become longer, I love to sit outside amongst friends having drinks and chatting the night away, suddenly realizing it’s 10.30 PM and nobody has froze to death.
Last summer has been one of the best of my life. Not only have I met a lot of new friends, I also became a lot closer with friends that have been around longer. We lead the most blissful life, dipping in the pool when the sun started burning on our skin, drinks to our left and a Raclette burger to our right.
Here are 10 tips of some of the things I think we should all schedule into our summer schedules this year and have another amazing summer of our lives!
Explore and with that I don’t mean buy a plane ticket and get out of the country. Grab your sunglasses, pack your backpack, grab some snacks and get on the road. Sometimes the most beautiful places are right under our noses.
Meet your friends at the supermarket, grab a one-time-use grill or a couple, depending on how many of you there are, get some meats and veggies, for dessert bananas and chocolate for a BBQ at the lake. Definitely beats the big old, boring chips bag and guarantees a fun day out in the sun.
Set your alarm at ridiculous-o’clock in the morning, while it’s still cool and go on a hike. I did this last summer and it felt amazing, having achieved something before the clock hit 8 AM. It will most definitely also impress your friends, who have been snoozing away.
Summers do tend to get a bit boozy, so to cure your hangover, you must stay poolside for the day. Bring your drinking companions and set out to not doing much for the day. Make sure there’s some shade close by so your thumping head won’t hate you. If it tickles your pickle, cautiously reintroduce booze in the late afternoon.
It’s supermarket time again! This time go in and grab ice cream, chocolate syrup, sprinkles, fruits, marshmallows and whipped cream, basically whatever your heart desires. And then it’s sundae challenge time! Make the greatest sundaes of all times, the higher the calorie count, the better, because they don’t matter that day. Don’t forget to put it on Instagram for the world to be jealous.
I don’t think there’s a better time to release your inner kid than with actual kids in summer, so grab a bucket fill it with water balloons and start going at each other. Their parents will thank you for giving them a little break.
Go to a festival. It took me 22 years to go to one and I wondered why I hadn’t gone earlier. You’ll be surrounded by amazing music and great friends. If festivals aren’t your thing (that’s what I thought, too), still get a 1 day pass and see how it is, chances are that you’ll like it are high.
Do your research (or not) and get a really good book to read this summer, because just laying there, waiting for your tan to finally become even darker is boring. Not only will it stimulate your alcohol ridden brain cells, it will also make you look like an intellectual babe!
Usually I enjoy rain when I’m inside, but in summer, there’s nothing better than being outside and getting caught in a short rainstorm.
Whatever you do, you will be making memories of a lifetime, so for times where you will feel nostalgic, don’t forget to take pictures. Once summer has passed you will look back fondly on the wonderful times you had. Oh, and they make great material for the next #tbt that’s coming up for sure!
